Celtic sent a scout to watch Birger Meling in action against Dinamo Zagreb last week.

The hoops have been strongly linked with the Rosenborg defender who first caught the eye playing against Celtic two years ago.

Cetic look likely to sign a left-back before the transfer window closes in eight days time with strong reports linking them with Meling and Kilmarnock’s Geg Taylor.

The Sun reports:

SunSport can reveal that a Celtic scout watched the 24-year-old Norwegian in action during Rosenborg’s 2-0 Europa League defeat to Dinamo Zagreb last Wednesday. Meling is no stranger to Neil Lennon’s side having faced them previously in European competition.

Rosenborg’s Champions League hopes now look remote with Zagreb unlikely to chuck away a two goal lead when they travel to Norway.

Neil Lennon added to the sense of anticipation today by saying that he was hoping to have two or three new players signed up on Monday or Tuesday.

That timescale would seem to be ambitious for Meling who’ll be playing against Zagreb on Tuesday but in terms of transfer fee, wages and profile he certainly seems to be a likely candidate to replace Kieran Tierney.
