Neil Lennon was delighted by the scoring contribution of Vakoun Bayo in his first start as a Celtic player.

The January signing featured for five minutes last season during a cameo role at Rugby Park before an injury on international duty brought his season to an end.

Neil Lennon has made encouraging noises about Bayo since Celtic’s pre-season trip to Austria but it was a major shock when he was named in the starting XI today to face Hearts with Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths sitting on the bench.

Bayo pressurised Christophe Berra into an own goal on the half hour mark with his pace and intelligent running causing the Hearts defence plenty of problems. On the hour mark he scored Celtic’s third goal although Craig Levein attempted to credit it to Craig Halkett!

The win returned Celtic to top place in the SPFL after a three hour break with full points and a five goal advantage over Steven Gerrard’s side who also have nine pints from three matches.
