Neil Lennon wants Tommy Johnston to head up Celtic’s Recruitment operations.

With another disappointing transfer window coming to a close attention is firmly on Celtic’s transfer business.

There seems to be little evidence of a well thought out strategy in terms of players leaving and arriving with the hoops failing to reach the group phase of the Champions League for the fourth time in six years.

Lee Congerton left the club in May to link up again with Brendan Rodgers with Nicky Hammond brought in at the start of July to assist with transfer activities.

VideoCelts understands that Hammond has little interest in his current post becoming permanent leaving Celtic on the look out to fill a vital role.

Picking up on a report in the Daily Mail the Daily Record reports:

Neil Lennon has reportedly wants former team-mate Tommy Johnson back at Celtic as part of his transfer team. The former Hoops striker played alongside Lennon during the 2000/2001 Treble-winning season and currently works in a recruitment role for Nottingham Foest.

But the Parkhead boss is hopeful he can convince the 48-year-old to return to Parkhead as a scout, reports The Daily Mail. Transfer specialist Nicky Hammond is currently conducting a review of the club’s recruitment policy following the departure of Lee Congerton.

Lennon has been unable to bring in anyone to his backroom staff which suggests that he is unlikely to have an influence on who will head up Recruitment.

On Sunday the hoops boss expressed a wish to bring in two or three players before flying to Sweden but on Wednesday morning there was no sign of any new arrivals at the club.
