Chris Sutton has challenged the Celtic board to put their profits on the pitch.

While Neil Lennon’s squad were earning a 1-1 draw away to Cluj the finishing touches were being put to a £25m deal to sell Kieran Tierney to Arsenal.

Over the last 12 months Celtic have picked up record transfer fees for Moussa Dembele and Tierney as well as a reported £9m pay off from Leicester for a new management team.

Christopher Jullien will be picking up a top wage after his £7m transfer but by the time the hoops take on Motherwell it looks like Tierney and Scott Sinclair will have been removed from the wage bill. Already this summer Mikael Lustig and Dedryck Boyata have been moved on.

Lennon has had to put together a new look defence during critical Champions League matches with Boli Bolingoli looking badly exposed during the draw with Cluj.

On the other flank Hatem Abd Elhamed had a fairly steady game before being substituted late on by Nir Bitton.

Having spent £13m on four players that outlay will be more than covered by the sale of Tierney with all eyes on Celtic to see how the team is strengthened with their Champions League future decided over the next three midweeks.
