Daniel Church has joined East Fife on loan- a week before they face Steven Gerrard’s side in the Betfred Cup.

The 19-year-old left-back has had two years of Reserve League football with the move to the First Division outfit giving him the chance to accelerate his development.

Church goes straight into the East Fife squad to play Peterhead tomorrow before the big time returns to Bayview next Sunday with a last 16 tie in the Betfred Cup.

East Fife enjoyed a 2-0 win away to Dundee United and a penalty shoot-out win over Hearts to progress in the competition and started their league campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Clyde.

Church is part of the 2000 age group at Celtic that includes his international team-mates Stephen Welsh and Robbie Deas as well as Jack Aitchison and Kerr McInroy.

On Tuesday night he was in his usual left back role in the Tunnocks Cup tie against Queens Park, threading a great pass through to Aitchison to open the scoring.

Like Deas, who is on loan at Alloa, Church will continue to train on a daily basis with Celtic as well as joining East Fife boss Darren Young for evening training sessions.
