Keith Jackson has launched an attack on Celtic’s internet community, using the Daily Record website!

The success of independent websites and growth of social media has hammered the print sales of newspapers putting the future of many long running titles in doubt.

In almost all cases ‘twitter reacts’ type stories are used as a gauge of public opinion, yesterday the reactions of half a dozen Colombian supporters was being used to support an international recall for Alfredo Morelos.

The source of Jackson’s attack can be traced back to Celtic’s Champions League defeat from Cluj when Brown liked a tweet critical of Lennon for that result. The Celtic captain issued an explanation a few hours later.

On the back of that there were various claims being made of a fall-out between Brown and Lennon before and after the defeat from the Romanian champions.

It seems that Jackson has been given an exclusive interview with the Celtic manager with the introduction to the piece an obvious attack on internet users.

Jackson writes:

There was a nasty rumour doing the rounds on the internet just a few weeks ago of some monumental bust-up between Neil Lennon and Scott Brown.

Like so much of the toxic guff which spews out online – very often placed there with malicious intent by grown men of stunted intellect – this sensationalised split turned out to be no more than a figment of an attention seeker’s imagination. More curious still, this wilful distortion appeared to emanate from within the bosom of Celtic’s own virtual community along with the cursory ‘donate here’ appeal. It was all very mysterious.

In November 2010 alongside James Traynor, Jackson and the Daily Record introduced Motherwell born billionaire Craig Whyte to Scottish football. Online the off the radar wealth was instantly challenged, less than 18 months later Whyte put Rangers Football Club into administration.

In September 2015, reflecting on his ban from Celtic Park and Lennoxtown, Jackson wrote:

AS anniversaries go it’s fair to say this one is fairly inauspicious. One year stuck on Celtic’s naughty step. In just two weeks’ time it’ll be twelve full months of being treated like a pariah at Parkhead. Persona non grata at the club’s Lennoxtown training base too.

And all because of a back page headline which was not to the liking of Ronny Deila or, perhaps more importantly, Peter ‘The Power’ Lawwell. That the offending words were written by someone else inside Record towers turned out to be no mitigation at all.

Last season Jackson returned to producing match reports from Celtic Park.
