Mark Schwarzer is hoping that Daniel Arzani will soon be back in a Celtic shirt.

The winger signed a two year loan deal from Manchester City but 20 minutes into his hoops debut last October he picked up an ACL injury and hasn’t been seen since.

After Celtic’s first day of pre-season training Arzani was put up for a media conference in which he spoke positively about his comeback but so far this season he has yet to play at any sort of level.

Australia flopped badly at the Asian Cup in January, going out at the quarter-final stage with former Socceroos keeper Schwarzer hoping that emerging talent like Arzani can breathe fresh life into his national side.

“Daniel Arzani is one of those players who has been incredibly exciting and particularly leading up to the World Cup in 2018,” Schwarzer toldĀ Goal. “He had a phenomenal breakthrough season in the A-League.

“He didn’t play enough games over 90 minutes, which is something he needs to build on. The Celtic move is one which I am not sure is the best move for him just yet. But it is about playing games and continuing to develop.

“His injury came at the very worst time as he just arrived and got his first opportunity to play from the start. It was not only unfortunate for his career at Celtic but also for Australia. I just hope that he can get back to the level he was at before his injury.”

Better news on the injury front for Australia is the prospect of Tom Rogic being in the Celtic squad to face Hamilton on Sunday.

The midfielder hasn’t played at all this season but with Celtic involved in midweek matches between now and the end of December he will have the chance to compete with Ryan Christie for the attacking midfield role.
