Jozo Simunovic will be out of action for the remainder of this year.

The defender underwent surgery in London last week on his long standing knee issue. Simunovic has only played in seven European matches this season and isn’t likely to play a domestic match until after the January break to Dubai.

Neil Lennon brought the former Dinano Zagreb defender back into his side towards the end of last season and was rewarded with solid performances and important goals against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

Simunovic started this season partnering Kris Ajer in central defence with Christopher Jullien watching the Champions League qualifiers against Cluj from the bench.

The £7m Frenchman has now established himself in the side alongside Ajer with back up available from Hatem Abd Elhamed, Nir Bitton and Jack Hendry.

Since joining Celtic four years ago Simunovic has only started 64 SPFL matches.
