Celtic are likely to face Cluj on Thursday with Odsonne Edouard the only striker available to Neil Lennon.

Leigh Griffiths hasn’t played in over a month and is currently out with a thigh strain and virus while Vakoun Bayo is suspended for the match against the Romanian’s.

Neil Lennon was unhappy at the second yellow card issued to the striker by Spanish referee  Jose Maria Sanchez but it appears that there was no way of appealing the decision.

Initially Sanchez ignored the play acting of the Rennes goalkeeper but after a quick check decided to give Bayo his second card with Celtic finishing the match with ten men.

Bayo was on top form for Celtic in the 5-0 hammering of Partick Thistle in midweek but Lennon told The Sun that he’ll have to watch the Cluj match from the stand.

He’ll miss the Cluj game next week through suspension, but he was harshly treated against Rennes so there’s no blame attached to him. He’s a good kid who comes in with a smile on his face. He’s in great condition and he’s really done well.

He had to bide his time, and he was a wee bit down after the recurrence of his hamstring injury. Vakoun got a bad one with Ivory Coast around March, but he had a good pre-season then it re-occurred, even if it only kept him out for a short time but what we saw pre-season encouraged us a lot and he’s come into the team.

With the form Odsonne Edouard is in, it’s going to be difficult to replace him on a regular basis — but when he’s coming in he’s playing and training well. He’s taking his opportunities and he’s a very valued member of the squad.

Celtic should have Mikey Johnston and Nir Bitton available to face Cluj with both expected to be back in training on Monday.
