Two days after the transfer window closed Neil Lennon has spoken positively of the contribution of Nicky Hammond.

The former West Brom recruitment chief was brought in at the start of July for an undefined period with the brief to identify and assist with players arriving and departing the club.

While the chief aim of the club, reaching the group phase of the Champions League wasn’t achieved a number of key positions were strengthened with the hoops enjoying a 100% start to the SPFL and reaching the Europa League group stage.

It’s unclear whether Hammond will have an on-going role at Celtic but the man at the sharp end was fulsome in his praise for the work put in by Hammond.

Lennon told The Sun:

He has worked tirelessly, he has been here, there and everywhere, he has been around Europe looking at players, meeting agents, club representatives, talking to people on the phone constantly. He is so diligent.

I have enjoyed working with him the last few weeks and we have had a good week and everything starts to look even more promising. The players we brought in, a lot of it is down to his hard work.”

There was a very noticable change in emphasis in Celtic’s transfer activity towards the UK with only Christopher Jullien, Boli Bolingoli and Hatem Abd Elhamed of 11 signings coming from outside Scotland and England.
