Subtle Sutton kills off the Morelos v Edouard debate

Chris Sutton has delivered a brilliant put down to those that have been trying to make comparisons between Odsonne Edouard and Alfredo Morelos.

Both strikers are starting off in their third season in Scottish football with the Colombian bagging 10 goals already this season.

In contrast Edouard has only hit the net six times which gives some stattos the chance to claim that rattling in goals for fun against St Joseph’s of Gibraltar has some meaning.

A fortnight ago the two strikers were preparing for the Glasgow derby with Sutton summing up their different contributions in his Daily Record column:

While Alfredo Morelos can’t even be trusted by his manager to start an Old Firm game, Edouard makes the difference. The goal before he departed for international duty at Ibrox set the champions on their way to inflicting a damaging defeat on Rangers.

Once away, he got his first two opportunities to play for the France Under-21 team against Albania and Czech Republic and managed to bag three goals. That was a strong statement. Edouard is coming to people’s attention outside of Scotland and little wonder. He’s progressing at a rapid rate.

French Eddie returns to Hamilton at noon today, the scene of his scoring Celtic debut just over two years ago.

Since then he has scored five derby goals and the double that clinched the Treble Treble in last season’s Scottish Cup Final win over Hearts.

Like many Sutton thinks that this will be Edouard’s last season as a Celtic player, if the opening weeks of the season are any sort of guide it looks like he’ll be going out in style.
