Scott Bain’s new contract caught the Celtic support by surprise.
The former Dundee keeper signed a four year deal in the summer of 2018 and went on to displace Craig Gordon halfway through last season.
That process was reversed earlier this season when Bain played through an injury at home to Cluj, lost his place to Craig Gordon then saw Fraser Forster arrive on a season long loan.
Bain has yet to return to action, or earn a place on the bench but with Craig Gordon out of contract at the end of this season the former Dundee keeper looks like starting next season as Celtic’s first choice.
Last autumn Celtic were busy handing out new contracts to James Forrest, Bain, Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie.
The deal for Christie was signed on November 12 and described as a three year contract. A contract from November to November is very rare with supporters hoping that it was three years from the end of the season meaning that he is tied to the club until June 2022.
With his new found status within the club, confirmed by Neil Lennon, any new contract for Christie would elevate him up among the highest earners at the club.

That’s not up to Celtic. He is a Southampton player and they will ultimately decide. I hope we are able to sign him but don’t blame Celtic if it doesn’t happen.

Surely extending you back-up ‘keeper’s contract means that the first-choice won’t be staying past the end of the season…
