Celtic could be in line for a £600,000 bonus thanks to Ross Wilson’s arrival at Ibrox as Sporting Director.

Southampton and Manchester City have both been linked with a £2m move for Aaron Hickey of Hearts with transfer guru Wilson joining up at Ibrox yesterday after quitting Southampton.

The 17-year-old only made his Hearts debut in May but has been the only bright spot at Tynecastle as Craig Levein fights for his job.

Hickey was part of Celtic’s Academy set up but when he insisted that he wanted to sign a professional contract with Hearts a 30% sell on clause was inserted in the deal.

The defender remains on the contract that he signed in August 2018 with Hearts keen to get him onto a new first team deal as the vultures circle although his deal runs until 2021.

Detailing the interest from Ibrox, The Sun reports:

New Gers chief Wilson believes the youngster, who is comfortable anywhere in the back four, is a big star in the making. Ironically, Celtic would benefit from a large portion of any Light Blues cash, having insisted on a 30 per cent sell-on clause when they let Hickey join Hearts a year ago.

Hearts are unlikely to be keen in a move to Ibrox with a transfer to England their Plan B after convincing the defender to stay at Tynecastle.

Despite his patchy record at Southampton the appointment of Wilson at Ibrox has been warmly received with accompanying feel-good stories. On Sunday the Ibrox side will get a close up look at Hickey when they visit Tynecastle with Hearts two points above bottom place in the SPFL table.
