Hatem Abd Elhamed is a major doubt for Israel’s match against Latvia tomorrow night.

The defender played the full 90 minutes against Austria on Thursday night but hasn’t trained since after picking up a virus.

Elhamed’s transfer to Celtic has came at the same time as he has established a place in the international side but his place is in doubt for tomorrow’s match.

“Hatem Abd Elhamed is sick and has been suffering from a virus,” Israel boss Andreas Herzog told The Sun. “He’s not trained and in fact hasn’t even left the team hotel. He’s not been able to eat with the rest of the group. Clearly, he’s a major doubt for the game.”

The 28-year-old has shared Celtic’s right-back position with Moritz HHerzog but has been given the nod for the major matches including the Europa League ties against Rennes and Cluj.

While Saturday’s match against Ross County is important is important domestically Neil Lennon will be keen to have Elhamed available for next Thursday’s home match with Lazio.

The Celtic boss will get an update today on the fitness of his Scotland contingent after the win over San Marino but won’t have his full squad available again until Sunday with a number of players involved in international matches on Tuesday night.
