Neil Lennon had the last laugh on Steven Gerrard as Celtic finished the weekend at the top of the SPFL.

It might only be on goals scored with the two Glasgow sides level on points and goal difference the hoops are in top spot due to scoring more goals.

After losing 2-0 at Livingston a fortnight ago Celtic were overtaken at the top by the Ibrox side when they demolished Hamilton Accies 5-0 at home.

For a fortnight Gerrard has been able to revel in his side’s lofty position but rather than keep a low profile he decided to start dishing out advise and predictions with 30 matches left to play.

Lennon is well used to the pressures of winning titles, as a player and manager and knows better than to be crowing about the league table in October.

Covering the Celtic manager’s response in a pre-match interview The Sun reported:

Asked about Gerrard’s comments by a BBC Scotland reporter, Lennon said: “I don’t know where that comes from. Yeah I’d quibble with that. We’ve had five away games and three at home. I’m always going to quibble with a comment like that.”

With Celtic putting down a marker against Ross County yesterday the pressure was on Gerrard as he took his side to face Hearts with the home side without an SPFL win at Tynecastle since March.

Ryotaro Meshino opened the scoring for Hearts but Alfredo Morelos equalised shortly before half time.

Hearts had the better of the second half but never found a winner but the point lifted them above Hibs into 10th place while the Ibrox side are behind Celtic at the top of the table.
