Bobby Madden will referee Saturday’s Betfred Cup tie between Celtic and Hibs at Hampden.

The experienced official has only refereed three SPFL Premiership matches so far this season with two of them being at Ibrox. Tomorrow night Madden will be the man in the middle when Steven Gerrard’s side visit Ross County on SPFL business.

In his only Celtic match so far this season Madden handed out a late red card to Jordan Jones as Celtic won 2-0 in the September Glasgow derby.

Celtic go to Hampden as strong favourites to take care of Paul Heckinbottom’s side despite the two clubs recently drawing 1-1 at Easter Road in a match marred by the refereeing of Kevin Clancy.

Hibs haven’t won an SPFL Premiership match since the first weekend of the season with pressure mounting on Heckingbottom who succeeded Neil Lennon as manager.

Tory MP Douglas Ross will take time off from election campaigning to be an assistant at Hampden.

John Beaton will referee the other semi-final on Sunday.
