Neil Lennon threw his players a half-time challenge- and they answered it in spades.

A fourth minute goal from Mo Elyounoussi set the tone for the match but despite 21 attempts at goal there was no further scoring before half time.

At the interval Lennon gathered his players together, shared a few words and ideas then sat back as his side rattled in four goals in the first ten minutes of the second half.

Covering his interview with Radio Scotland the Daily Record reported:

I threw a challenge down to the players at half-time and they responded magnificently with a great volley of goals.

That’s the most complete performance I’ve had since my second time here, maybe even my first time because I couldn’t fault anyone tactically or athletically – the team was outstanding. It was just pure talent on the pitch today, I enjoyed it immensely.

(I told them) ‘Don’t be nice, don’t be a nice team, don’t give oxygen to the opponent. They’re in the game because you’ve missed some really good chances but your football is fantastic. So, can you be ruthless now and show the home support and the rest of the country what a good team you can be?’ They answered that in spades.

Elyounoussi scored the final goal in the 72nd minute alongside a double from Odsonne Edouard and strikes from James Forrest and Callum McGregor.

After losing 2-0 away to Livingston Lennon was confident that his side would bounce back with the performance and result required.

Ryan Christie’s suspension was barely noticed with Tom Rogic stepping in while Jeremie Frimpong provided a third option at right-back as Lennon prepares for Thursday’s visit from Lazio in the Europa League.
