Celtic maintained their place at the top of the SPFL Premiership with a hard fought 2-0 win over St Mirren.

Mo Elyounoussi and James Forrest scored the goals in the early stages of the second half with St Mirren rarely looking like a goal threat.

Christopher Jullien should have been on the scoresheet but the touch that he had last week against Lazio deserted him around goal.

James Forrest and Odsonne Edouard both hit the woodwork but tonight’s match completed a very satisfactory run of three wins in seven days against Lazio, Aberdeen and St Mirren.

Another goal or two would have been welcome but Neil Lennon would be pleased to get Ryan Christie back in the side while Greg Taylor came in to make his debut following his deadline day move from Kilmarnock.

Neil Lennon will check the fitness of his players tomorrow with another quick turnaround for Saturday’s Betfred Cup semi-final against Hibs who drew 2-2 at home with Livingston tonight.
