Tom Rogic enjoyed a winning return to international football as Australia beat Jordan 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Amman.

The result puts the Socceroos at the top of Group B in the marathon qualifying process towards the 2022 finals in Qatar.

Rogic hadn’t played international football since the Asian Championships in January where he picked up a knee injury but with 90 minutes under his belt he’ll return early to Celtic fit and well for the gruelling December fixture list which has nine matches in 28 days.

Joining him in the side was former Celt Jackson Irvine who created the only goal of the game for Adam Taggart in the 13th minute with the Socceroos website reporting:

Irvine has been directly involved in six goals for Australia in 2019 (two goals & four assists) – more than any other player for the Caltex Socceroos this calendar year.

Australia’s next match isn’t until March 26 when they host Kuwait, followed five days later by a trip to Nepal. Once the domestic season is completed Australia have June home fixtures against Chinese Taipei and Kuwait.
