Celtic are assured of topping Group E after tonight’s results saw the hoops beat Rennes 3-1 while Lazio were winning 1-0 at home over Cluj.

Neil Lennon’s side took their points tally to 13 with a comfortable win over the French side leaving Lazio and Cluj to sweat it out over who will come through in second spot.

Scott Brown will be suspended for the trip to Romania but is likely to have company at Lennoxtown as Lennon gives a number of his squad a breather in the middle of a month that includes nine matches in four weeks.

Lewis Morgan opened the scoring tonight as he dashed towards the front post area to finish off a great move down the left between Greg Taylor and James Forrest.

Just before half-time a 28 yard drive from Ryan Christie found the back of the net while Mikey Johnston netted seven minutes after replacing Forrest midway through the second half.

Rennes pulled a goal back in the 89th minute but after going past the 10 points mark for the first time ever in a UEFA grop no-one at Celtic was overly worried about that consolation.

Lazio are now depending on Celtic winning away to Cluj while doing the same in France against Rennes to remain in the competition.
