Ally McCoist has joked that he’d get a better reception than Rod Stewart from Celtic supporters.

Tomorrow night the former Question of Sport skipper will be on duty for BT Sport at Tynecastle as Neil Lennon’s side attempt to go five points clear at the top of the SPFL table.

McCoist has had one spell in management- providing Celtic fans with a host of memories and priceless contributions to The Banter Years.

After taking over from Walter Smith to team up with Craig Whyte McCoist got off to a fatal start in management with defeats to Malmo and Maribor leaving a massive hole in the club’s finances.

Domestically things started well with Celtic trailing by 15 points in third place at the start of November but after Joe Ledley scored the only goal of the December Glasgow derby Celtic were in top place on route to winning the SPFL title.

In the lower divisions he suffered shock cup defeats to Forfar, Alloa, Queen of the South and Raith Rovers, after being drawn against Celtic in the semi-final of the 2015 League Cup he opted to go on gardening leave.

After a year out of the spotlight McCoist has rebuilt his media career and recently covered Celtic’s League Cup Final success at Hampden for BT Sport.

Looking forward to Celtic’s match at Tynecastle tomorrow The Sun picked up on the chat from Alan Brazil’s Breakfast Show on TalkSPORT:

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Gers boss said: “I’m at Tynecastle on Wednesday for Hearts vs Celtic, I’m at Easter Road for Hibs vs Rangers on Friday.”

Host Brazil jumped in on McCoist, joking: “That will be a great reception you’re going to get there at Tynecastle.”

And McCoist suggested he’d get a better reception than the rock star after recent events.

He said: “Yes, Alan. Good reception from the boys I would’ve thought. Better than Rod by the sounds of things!”

Brazil replied: “Don’t go there. I’m not talking about that.”

McCoist co-hosts the Breakfast Show twice a week on TalkSPORT.
