Just after 1pm today Kilmarnock announced the sacking of Angelo Alessio.

After a difficult spell after taking over from Steve Clarke it seemed that the Italian had turned the corner with Killie in the top half of the SPFL with Alessio picking up the October Manager of the Month award.

Successive away defeats to Livingston and Ross County- to an injury time goal on Saturday- seem to have panicked the Killie board into action with just three matches to go until the winter break.

The statement read:

The Kilmarnock Football Club Limited can today announce that Angelo Alessio has been relieved of his position as Manager.

Everyone at the club would like to thank Angelo for his efforts during his time with Kilmarnock and we wish him every success for the future.

Alex Dyer will take charge of first-team duties on an interim basis. We will provide a further update for supporters in due course.

On Saturday Kilmarnock host Motherwell at Rugby Park before completing the year with trips to Ibrox and St Mirren.

In the first batch of SPFL Premiership fixtures of 2020 Celtic are at Rugby Park on Wednesday January 22.
