Ryan Christie has revealed that a last minute change of mind almost cost him Celtic’s opening goal against Ross County yesterday.

When Lewis Morgan was chopped down in the penalty box Christie was instantly on the job to put Celtic in front.

His shot was far from convincing but when Nathan Baxter presented him with the rebound the ball ended up in the back of the net.

Local bhoy Christie told The Sun:

I was probably the most excited of all the players as I was coming home. It was a chance for all the family to come and watch me for once, so it was good.

To top it all off with a win and a couple of goals against my old rivals was nice. I managed to stay up for the night as it was my mum’s birthday.

It’s a nice change to be able to get home as my parents make the trip down a few times a month. I did panic a little bit when the keeper saved my penalty.

Luckily it dropped to me again and I was able to score, but I got hammered off the boys. It was my own fault. I changed my mind at the last minute, so I have learned that lesson.

Yesterday’s double took Christie’s tally for the season to 15, one ahead of Odsonne Edouard.

Moi Elyounoussi’s injury has led to Christie playing wider than his usual role tucked in behind the main striker but that hasn’t reduced his goal threat.

Next week he seems certain to be excused Celtic’s Europa League trip to Cluj as Neil Lennon gives his main men a breather ahead of three matches in seven days against Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen.
