After watching his side lose 2-1 to Hearts at Tynecastle Steven Gerrard’s immediate thoughts turned to Celtic!

The Liverpool legend suffered defeat in his 100th match in management, showing up his lack of experience in how to handle a title race.

Managers normally body-swerve talking about other teams, league titles are a marathon not a sprint without any control of how other teams perform.

Celtic had won 11 SPFL matches on the bounce before losing the December derby, since tasting defeat on home soil they have beaten Kilmarnock and Ross County without a mention of any matters Ibrox coming from Neil Lennon.

After losing today Gerrard’s side have cancelled out the benefit of their success at Celtic Park, leaving them five points behind the champions with a game in hand.

After claiming that his side had up to eight passengers today Gerrard told the Daily Record:

Obviously, before today’s game, Celtic were waiting for us to blink. Today we blinked – big time. I’m not sure there will be too many blinks from now to the end of the season.

We need to try to avoid that level of performance otherwise we might not even be in a title race, never mind competing for the league.

Over the next ten days Ross County, Aberdeen and Hibs visit Ibrox while Celtic hit the road going to St Johnstone, Hamilton and Motherwell.
