At the end of December life was sweet for Kris Boyd. Sitting in the Sky Sports studio he savoured a defeat for Celtic, something he had rarely enjoyed from his usual seat on the opposition bench.

‘Men against boys’ he crowed as he looked out on an emptying Celtic Park smiling at the 800 visiting fans celebrating what appeared to be a December title triumph.

Mr Gerrard roared his approval straight into the camera of Sky Sports who shared the pictures with glee over the coming days.

After suffering through ten successive Celtic trophy wins from the side-lines Boyd felt the tide was turning, all the stick that he takes from hoops supporters was about to be gloriously repaid.

The next round of fixtures had Celtic down at Rugby Park, a stadium that had provided two defeats from their last three trips to Ayrshire.

Unfortunately for Boyd Celtic cruised to a 3-1 victory, even worse the main man in the performance was Leigh Griffiths. The Celtic striker didn’t miss his arch-critic when he scored Celtic’s second goal.

After the match Boyd was rattled as he hit out at Griffiths, over 200 Celtic fans have complained to Ofcom about the inaccurate attack on someone with well-publicised problems.

Boyd’s week could hardly get any worse but today it did. Watching alongside Neil McCann he had to endure a 2-1 defeat at Tynecastle despite Ryan Kent opening the scoring.

The SPFL table looks the same as it did at kick-off time on December 29, Boyd however isn’t looking quite as chirpy and confident.
