Michael Stewart is set to return to BBC Scotland- without backing down or apologising to James Traynor.

The former Hearts midfielder was ditched by the state broadcaster after making comments about the Ibrox PR guru as he linked together a couple of stories.

Sportsound host Kenny MacIntyre went overboard to distance himself from the comments with the podcast from February 3 never making it onto the BBC website.

Stewart was dropped by Radio Scotland from their programmes with Sportscene doing the same. Without the ex Hearts man they turned to Neil McCann, Malky Mackay and James McFadden who were almost as dull as Steven Thompson.

Now it appears that a breakthrough has been agreed with The Sun, where Stewart is a columnist, reporting:

MICHAEL STEWART is set to return on air for BBC Scotland this weekend after his suspension was finally lifted. The footie pundit hasn’t appeared on any Beeb shows since Monday February 3 – the night he blasted Rangers PR chief Jim Traynor.

But SunSport understands the ex-Hearts and Hibs star is set to end his exile in the coming days following constructive talks with BBC bosses.

A BBC spokesperson told us: “Following Sportsound on Monday February 3 we have clearly explained the BBC editorial guidelines around fairness and accuracy to Michael Stewart. We expect our pundits to be forthright, but fair. Michael agrees with this. On that basis Michael is now available for selection for Sportscene and Sportsound.”

However, it’s not yet known exactly when he will return to TV screens or the airwaves.

Stewart will still be able to comment on matters at Ibrox but viewers and listeners will be left to come to their own conclusions as to who is orchestrating media content.

Since Stewart’s suspension many individuals have been discussed and criticised on Sportsound with no apology offered even though they haven’t been in the studio to defend themselves.

This weekend BBC Scotland has live television coverage of the Hibs v Inverness Caley Thistle match on Friday and St Mirren v Aberdeen on Saturday.
