Gary McAllister has denied rumours that unrest set in with his squad during the winter break in Dubai.

In the first game back, a 2-0 win over Stranraer in the Scottish Cup, Steven Gerrard said he was bored watching the display. On the back of that result eight points were chucked away against Hearts, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock.

After the defeat at Kilmarnock Hugh Burns claimed that ‘things had happened that shouldn’t have’ during the January break in Dubai.

No mainstream outlet touched the story for more than a week but the issue was raised when McAllister spoke to the Sunday newspapers ahead of today’s match at St Johnstone.

Responding to the rumours he told The Sun:

I can say absolutely 100 per cent that there was no unrest in Dubai. That just wasn’t the case. All that talk is part of being at a big city club. There will always be people assuming things, but that’s nonsense.”

Alfredo Morelos was given additional time off in January, remaining in Colombia for a few extra days while his team-mates were in Dubai.

While Celtic had round the clock access to their training facilities in Dubai Gerrard’s squad had one two hour slot per day.
