Sometimes former players can try too hard to get into the media game.

This season the opinions of Craig Beattie have been in demand with Radio Clyde and Radio Scotland, sometimes on consecutive days.

Back in November Sky Sports gave him a call as the nation worked itself into a frenzy over an ‘Old Firm title race’.

A dozen or so games into the season the two Glasgow sides were level on points with Celtic edging it in terms of goal difference.

‘It’ll go to the wire’ and ‘too close to call’ were being used across the board as speculation mounted over a Helicopter Sunday after six months of the big two going toe-to-toe.

Looking to be cutting edge, stand out from the crowd Beattie decided to turn logic on its head which simply illustrated his lack of understanding of the game.

With one club winning the last nine domestic trophies up against the 2016 Petrofac Training Cup holders any logical assessment would question whether the upstarts had the nerve to challenge the Treble Treble winners.

But not Craig Beattie.

‘How will Celtic cope’ he asked.

Probably in the way that they coped with the Warburton Factor, the Caixinha Revolution and losing last season’s Winter Break Trophy.

This Celtic squad has been batting aside challenges for years. So much so that Beats and other pundits had forgotten all about January 2019,

A Scott Brown own goal had decided the final match of 2018, Steve Davis and Jerman Defoe joined a Liverpool legend while Celtic lost their manager in February.

And Celtic romped to the league with a final winning margin of nine points.

Three months after Beattie questioned the bottle of the Celtic squad they are sitting 10 points clear on a 100% record in 2020.

One club has a squad packed with winners, perhaps the next time Beats has time to think he might want to question the rookie manager, the half dozen wingers that he has signed and doesn’t play while routinely throwing his players under the bus after every set-back.
