Michael Stewart has warned Neil Lennon that Jozo Simunovic has more bombscare performances ahead of him.

The defender had given off a few warning signs in the first half before being badly at fault for Copenhagen’s opener on Thursday night as Celtic crashed out of the Europa League to the Danes.

Other players were at fault as the second half unfolded but their recent contributions allow those errors to be put down as a bad night at the office.

Since joining Celtic in September 2015 the former Dinamo Zagreb man has only started 70 SPFL matches with only a spell during the second half of the 2016/17 season suggesting that his career was progressing.

Plenty of blame has been thrown around since Thursday night but with his contract up in the summer Stewart believes that it is almost time up for Simunovic as a Celtic player.

The former Hearts midfielder told The Sun:

I just don’t think Simunovic is good enough for Celtic, full-stop. Up until a month or so ago he hadn’t played all that much this season through injury.

And in his absence Ajer and Christopher Jullien appeared to form a solid partnership. More recently they’ve flipped to a back three and that’s got Griffiths back in the side but it has meant Simunovic has played a lot more and unfortunately he’s got nights like Thursday in him.
