Celtic fan BHJ has brilliantly brought together the two main stories of the week with a delve into the archives of Radio Scotland from 2012.

At the time James Traynor was a key presenter and pundit with the state broadcaster as well as heading up the Football Department at the Daily Record.

In November 2010 Traynor broke the story of billionaire Craig Whyte taking over Rangers in a £30m deal from Dave Murray but within 18 months the club was in administration.

Dunfermline, Dundee United and Inverness Caley Thistle had been stung for cash with Rangers going into administration while owing those clubs money from tickets sold to their own fans.

St Etienne, Rapid Vienna, Arsenal and Manchester City were some of the other football clubs that had to wait to get their money from the administrators.

The visit of Celtic to Ibrox on March 25 promised to be a big pay day for Duff & Phelps with 7,000 gloating away fans ready to pump in over £300,000 to the club before VAT was deducted.

Wary of the club being in administration Celtic refused to pay up front for the tickets in case the fixture wasn’t fulfilled leaving them in the same boat as the Scottish clubs stung by administration.

Live on air Traynor made some very serious allegations about Peter Lawwell and Celtic. While Kenny MacIntyre almost passed out at claims made against Traynor by Michael Stewart there was no suggestion by host Jim Spence that Traynor withdraw his comments since the Celtic Chief Executive wasn’t in the studio to defend himself.

On Tuesday Radio Scotland issued an apology to Traynor, Stewart’s place with the state broadcaster has been taken by the charismatic James Faddy McFadden.
