BBC Scotland have refused to cover Celtic’s row with Sky Sports.

At the start of the week the state broadcaster willingly accepted the translation offered by Sky Sports to an interview with Alfredo Morelos. Despite their vast resources no one thought to get a Spanish speaker to take a listen just to verify the allegations against Celtic.

Monday’s Sportsound programme covered it in depth, things got heated, Michael Stewart strayed off message and hasn’t been invited back by the BBC. James McFadden has proved to be a sub-standard replacement.

On Tuesday a statement from Celtic presented the BBC with the opportunity to take rivals Sky to task. The state broadcaster body-swerved the issue.

Yesterday Celtic escalated the matter, it had been reported to Ofcom, the club was serious about being mis-represented. BBC Scotland paid tribute to the recently retired Kenny Miller.

From the Celtic statement:

3     What part did Sky Television play in briefing the story, based on the inaccurate translation, to the wider media?

Fifteen stories are currently on the top half of the BBC homepage, there is no mention of the seriousness that Celtic are challenging the claim of racism against their fans.

Sky Sports have had a very damaging week, fortunately for them it’s been almost as bad a week for BBC Scotland with their priorities there for all to see.
