It was vintage Chris Sutton, rubbing salt into open wounds after today’s 2-2 draw at McDiarmid Park.
Whatever he tweets the former Celtic striker has the uncanny knack of upsetting Ibrox fans. On Thursday night he congratulated them on winning the Europa Cup.
After four years of taunting from Sutton the fans still fall for it as their hopes are built up then deflated at the prospect of stopping Celtic’s march to trophy after trophy.
Today’s match against St Johnstone summed up the full gory of the eight year journey from Administration through the hedge at Glebe Park including the joys of winning at Celtic Park less than two months ago.
Comical defending from Nikola Katic created the opening goal for Callum Hendry after seven minutes but it looked like the good days were back when Flo Kamberi and Joe Aribo put the visitors in front after 71 minutes.
St Johnstone weren’t finished with another error from Katic allowing Stevie May to equalise in the 80th minute.
Fourth official Andrew Dallas allowed four minutes of stoppage time but there was no further scoring with the visiting players trooping off the pitch dejected as they prepared to be launched under another bus by their rookie manager.
With Celtic beating Kilmarnock the hoops are 12 points clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership table although Gerrard’s side have a game in hand- at home to St Johnstone.
Battling point for Rangers…
