After finishing 2019 declaring that it was men against boys it’s safe to say that 2020 hasn’t been kind to Kris Boyd.

Sitting in the Sky Sports studio inside Celtic Park life could hardly have been sweeter for the retired striker, the years of Celtic domination looked to be over.

False starts under Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha had quickly been put out by Brendan Rodgers but with the pint-sized former Liverpool boss back in England the good days were within sight for Boydy.

As an added bonus the fees for his media appearances would be rolling in as he discussed how the tactical brilliance of Mr Gerrard got the better of wee Lenny.

For reassurance of the way 2020 was shaping up Boyd looked at the fixture list, Celtic with almost constant away games while his Ibrox heroes barely ventured outside of Glasgow.

A week into February and it’s almost impossible to find Boyd, calls for media appearances go unanswered as he tries to come to terms with Celtic’s seven-point lead and massive goal difference advantage.

Jermain Defoe has disappeared from sight while Leigh Griffiths ‘four weeks to save his career in December’ is scoring goals for fun.

Last week Boyd devoted his column in the Saturday Sun to Derek McInnes, tomorrow he’s likely to be sharing his views on anything other than the way the SPFL Premiership title race is developing.
