A week ago it seemed like the perfect deflection squirrel but just like the race for the SPFL title the best laid plans can often go badly wrong.

Presenting Alfredo Morelos to the Sky Sports cameras as a lovely humble guy would take attention away from an upcoming story about his private life. Throw some more dirt at Celtic and everyone’s a winner even if there isn’t a club in the world prepared to bid for the striker with seven red cards over the previous 18 months.

Somewhere along the line someone got too ambitious, decided to go the extra mile. Rather than embellish quotes the translation had ‘magic dust’ sprinkled on top with disastrous consequences.

Pesky Spanish speakers were quickly onto it, things didn’t add up. One off message journalist in Colombia claimed it was the worst translation he had ever witnessed. Others claimed that it wasn’t even a translation, just a poor attempt to get the message out there with next to no relation to the truth.

Such was the distortion that Celtic found a backbone. Not only that Peter Lawwell came out his bunker with a follow up statement, an Ofcom complaint for Sky to deal with and even put his name to the statement.

Fortunately, BBC Scotland are still on message, Faddy does a fantastic job on stand-by, no unscripted questions will be asked at today’s media conference but outside of his little bubble things are going badly wrong with The Sun keeping James Traynor firmly in the spotlight.
