Barry Ferguson wants Dave King to fund a fresh transfer war-chest to finally bring success to Ibrox!

It seems that the former Rangers skipper is immune to financial reality with the club warning that it faced a £10m shortfall when it published its annual report in November.

Despite being just two points behind Celtic at the turn of the year no transfer fees were spent in January with Flo Kamberi and Ianis Hagi brought in on loan.

Over the course of four transfer windows Gerrard has signed 31 players with just over £2m raised by selling Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias.

Saturday’s Scottish Cup exit to Hearts confirmed that the current squad don’t have it in them with Chris Sutton’s claim that captain James Tavernier being a serial loser difficult to dispute.

Gerrard has clearly lost faith in the squad that he has assembled with Ferguson telling PLZ Soccer that the board has to fund another spending spree.

I think he knows himself he’ll need to go and bolster the squad. He does certainly need to go and get players that can come in and handle the pressures. It’s clear that some players can’t handle it and it’s too inconsistent for me.

I’ll go back to it. The performance on Wednesday night I thought was excellent. You can’t go three days later and put in that sort of performance against Hearts.

Some people will say that it was a tough game on Wednesday night, but the way they are looked after now, the way the sports science is in the game, there’s no excuses.

Gerrard is expected to face the media today to preview tomorrow’s home match against Hamilton Accies.
