Kevin Clancy has created another storm for the SFA and Compliance Officer Clare Whyte.

The error prone official was in charge of the Hibs v Hearts derby last night and again demonstrated that he doesn’t have the courage or ability to make straightforward but game changing decisions.

Midway through the first half Sean Clare was grounded clearing a ball for a thrown-in when Marc McNulty decided to trod on his opponents back.

It wasn’t a massive stamp but it was deliberate and carried out in full view of Clancy who took no action. It should have been a red card with no grounds for complaint.

47 seconds for Clancy’s view

At the end of December Clancy also apparently missed ‘an act of brutality’ carried out by Ryan Christie on Alfredo Morelos.

The Celtic midfielder was booked during the game but according to the SFA Clancy didn’t notice and punish it which resulted in a retrospective red card and two match ban for Christie.

If Clancy missed another very obvious with McNulty it is surely getting to the stage that he is demoted down for a season or two in the lower divisions rather than constantly missing important incidents in big fixtures.

Last May Clancy yellow carded Jon Flanagan for elbowing Scott Brown in the face as he waited for a corner to be delivered. The Compliance Officer upgraded the yellow to a red card which was overturned on appeal.

Since the Christie/Morelos incident Clancy has been in charge of Celtic’s home matches against Ross County and Kilmarnock.
