Steven Gerrard has been given the continued backing of Dave King.
The South African based criminal is apparently stepping down as chairman of the company but his hopes of a glorious handover are in tatters.
As the bells chimed to bring in 2020 King’s club was two points behind Celtic and basking in the afterglow of winning the Glasgow derby.
Since the campaign resumed there has been a drip-feed of bad news on the phone to South Africa, two points has stretched to 16 with bottom of the table Hearts ending the Scottish Cup dream.
Social media has turned against Gerrard who no longer has Mr pre-fixed on his surname with comparisons being made to Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha. Graeme Murty remains on the pay-roll.
Speaking to The Sun however Gerrard still has the backing of Mr Chairman:
Have I spoken to Dave? Yes, but I have regular contact with him. So I don’t want it to look as if he has supported me on the back of a few bad results. He has supported me since day one.
This week, during the bad results, all the board have been there for me and been rock solid. I think any manager at this football club needs that.

In December Gerrard signed a new contract keeping him at Ibrox until 2024.
