The controversy surrounding the SPFL vote on finishing the season has created a flurry of statements, three title announcements and a new Task Force to look into league reconstruction.
It has given the media a welcome distraction from the suspension of football with every development and aspect examined in detail with reactions and counter-claims never far away.
There has however been one aspect missing from the classic Scottish football controversy- the ‘Old Firm’ angle.
Celtic have completely refused to play ball. Not a single statement, no off the record comments, not a thing. The eight times champions have taken a back seat like the majority of the 80% plus of clubs that approved the resolution put forward by the SPFL board.
Desperate to get onto familiar territory Tom English claimed that Celtic fans opposed an independent review, eight hours later he had 1,000 replies to his tweet.
A full review of the SPFL would be welcomed by many Celtic supporters, there has been a number of puzzling decisions down the years but this issue seems fairly clear cut.
Murdoch MacLennan and Rod McKenzie are big hitters that don’t rely on football to pay their bills. One has a strong reputation in the media, the other in the legal profession. Getting involved in something underhand in football just isn’t worth it, they have much more on their mind than declaring an early end to a football season.
English got his way, he was swamped with replies- what he is highly unlikely to get is a reply, comment or statement from Celtic as they wait on the next move, safely on top of the SPFL with a 13 points cushion going into the final eight fixtures.
Why do so many Celtic fans on here oppose an independent review of the SPFL behaviour? Why would they not want it? Null and voiding of the league was never, ever gonna happen so what’s the fear here?

Would gladly take a review from top to bottom. Including the SFA who have STILL to release the details of the inquiry into UEFA licencing. Any chance you could ask them about that whilst your trying to purge the evil from football.

@spfl has been a shambles no doubt and we don’t need an IR to tell us that. The reason fo review was that Rangers had “irrefutable evidence” of wrongdoing. It was then strangely omitted from the last statement from Rangers. Put it in the public domain and then review away!

I’m not sure we are, Tom.
I listened in yesterday and what I did detect was you waiting, like a salivating dog, desperate for something controversial to appear. The amount of times you tried to mine it from the Aberdeen official was bordering on embarrassing

Which ones sorry? More than happy to have it – we’ve been saying the SPFL are useless for years

It’s hilarious how much some folk are trying to drag Celtic and Celtic fans into this when in reality we are just amused bystanders to the whole process.

Who’s opposed to it?
We want one as well but make sure it goes all the way back to 1999— Christopher (@Christo10024571) April 19, 2020
Who’s opposed? We want the league finished. Bring on the review.

I support a review if it’s for the right reasons, i’m not sure The Rangers spitting the dummy out because they aren’t happy with the outcome of a vote qualifies, but obviously you see it different, Tom.

Every Celtic fan wanted Doncaster sacked in 2012 ???? what are you talking about ????

If someone has this, they should bring it forward and present it. You can’t have an independent investigation into an acknowledgment of things could have been done better. Only wrongdoing. If it could have been done better then an internal investigation will highlight that.

I don’t think any Celtic fans could give a toss whether there’s an “independent review”, it’s just a shame people like you didn’t scream for one back when there actually was blatant corruption, bullying, rule breaking, criminality, sham inquiries all in plain sight.#LetsMoveOn
— Cecil Teapot (@cecilteaspoon) April 19, 2020
Celtic fans don’t oppose it.
We’re just baffled (not baffled) by the screaming media heads who, along with the rangers fans, are clamouring for it, when in 2012, when far worse went on, they collectively looked the other way.Spineless/in bed with corruption, you choose.
