Callum McGregor has laid out the path that a Glasgow boy took along London Road from Barrowfield to Celtic Park.

While still at primary school the midfielder joined the Celtic Academy, one of dozens of kids enjoying their football and dreaming of making it into the professional game, ideally at Celtic.

McGregor took on board the messages from the coaches, stuck to his training regime to earn a pro contract and a move up the road to Lennoxtown.

From the sidelines he watched a number of his team-mates make their Celtic debut. Lewis Toshney was first, followed by Filip Twardzik, then there was Dylan McGeouch. Marcus Fraser got some games, as did Joe Chalmers with Tony Watt exploding into the headlines.

McGregor had to head to Notts County for first team football. Chris Kiwomya gave him his chance alongside Jack Grealish, he did well but there were no great expectations when he returned to Celtic in the summer 2014.

Out of nowhere Ronny Deila pitched the midfielder into his first ever XI, scoring a late winner away to KR Reykjavik and the start of a run in the side where his goalscoring caught the eye.

When Brendan Rodgers took over in 2016 McGregor’s career had began to drift but halfway through the Invincible season he had played his way into the side and has been there ever since.

As his Instagram Q and A illustrates the boy from Springburn appreciates everything that he has achieved, every success that comes his way is fully deserved.
