Ianis Hagi is refusing to give up on this season’s SPFL title.

The Genk misfit arrived at Ibrox at the end of December just as the title challenge started to collapse.

Hagi made his debut in the 0-0 home draw against Aberdeen, replacing Scot Arfield with 13 minutes left to play.

Since then it has been downhill for the player and his club culminating in back-to-back defeats against Hearts and Hamilton who were bottom of the Premiership when they picked up their win bonuses.

Scottish football was suspended on March 13, the day after Bayer Leverkusen won 3-1 at Ibrox to virtually book their place in the last eight of the Europa League. Since then Hagi has been the subject of incredible spin.

Sources in Romania have revealed interest in the midfielder from Manchester City, Spurs and Real Madrid. Earlier this week they found someone to claim that the Genk man is actually a better player than Messi and Ronaldo were at the age of 21.

Turning to matters on the pitch he told the Daily Mail:

Can we win the league? If you look at the points difference, it’s a tough one. We have to be realistic but our only mindset, if the season starts, is we have to go out there and win every game – and then we’ll see where we stand at the end of the season.

Hagi is on loan at Ibrox until June, it’s unlikely that he will play again for Gerrard despite claims that there is a £4.5m buy out clause on his loan deal from Genk.
