Leigh Griffiths is three goals away from a place in the Top 20 of Celtic’s all-time goalscorers.

The 29-year-old has had a dramatic season with eight goals since the turn of the year to raise his tally since joining the club from Wolves in 2014 to 115.

Since the turn of the year Griffiths has gone past Frank McGarvey and John Hartson in the all-time list as he catches up on lost time.

Throughout 2019 it looked like his scoring, and playing days with Celtic were nearing an end but his return to form has brought a new dynamic to the side as Neil Lennon’s squad close in on another treble.

Discussing his goal targets Griffiths told The Sun:

I need three more to be in the top 20 all-time Celtic goalscorers. If you think about the great goalscorers who have been here over the years, that would probably be the biggest achievement of my career.

I just need to keep going to see how many I can get before I finish. I don’t think anybody’s going to beat Jimmy McGrory’s record. That’s just ridiculous.

I still remember the day I signed for Celtic when people said I could only do it at certain levels but I’ve managed to score at every level I’ve played with Celtic, so I’ve shut a lot of people up.

I’ve still got a bit to prove and make sure I’m back to my best. It’s nice to be remembered when people put the stats out there — that I got to 50 quicker than Henrik.

Ultimately, I’m never going to be Celtic’s Henrik Larsson. But you just try to make your own name.

Before he joined Celtic Griffiths had already scored 92 goals in all competitions for Livingston, Dundee and Hibs before taking the step up to join the Scottish champions.

Johny Campbell and Bobby Collin are currently two goals ahead of Griffiths on 117.
