Ibrox fans didn’t react kindly to Chris Sutton’s warning over season ticket sales.
In late afternoon the club announced that tickets for the 2020/21 season would go on sale on Monday- at the same time as UEFA effectively said that they have no start date for next season.
With a going concern warning in their 2019 accounts and an acknowledged shortfall of £10m for the 2019/20 season the Ibrox club are in a more dangerous position than most.
Last week The Sun revealed that the small print in their season tickets absolved the club from refunding season ticket holders for games that weren’t played. When football was suspended on 13 March there was still five out of 19 matches to be played on season tickets.
The urgent need for cash has been ever present. In pre-season Ibrox hosted friendly matches through July against Oxford, Marseille, Derby and Blackburn that weren’t on the season ticket followed by four Europa League qualifiers and three group stage matches.
Buying a season ticket is of course the choice of the individual but in the current climate no-one can say that they weren’t warned when they splash out for next season’s Ibrox campaign.
How can clubs sell season tickets when we don’t know when this season will end and next season will start and the structure of the league?? https://t.co/dYlgn1yXrE
