Scott Brown has hit straight back at the critics who wish to describe Celtic’s imminent title win as tainted or want an asterisk put against the 2019/20 campaign.

The hoops were 13 points ahead with eight matches left to play when football was suspended on March 13.

Since then there has been a campaign to discredit this season’s title with media favourites such as Alex Rae quietly pushing the Null and Void fantasy.

Across the whole of Europe that option has been written off with the SPFL set to announce Celtic as Premiership champions based on average points per game. Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers have already been awarded titles on the same basis.

Asked if he would concede the title if Celtic were 13 points behind Brown told Chris Sutton:

Obviously, we want to play the games but it’s a different situation for us, we’re in a strong position we know we were going to go on to 13, 16, 19 points clear because we’re a top quality team.

They, on the other hand, they came back, they were top of the league, they had their opportunity to push on and they didn’t continue the run that they had.

So I think from my behalf, and if I was in their situation, I think I would. Especially when the season was already won at the end of December.

Over the course of 30 matches Celtic dropped just 10 points giving them a record of 2.67 points per match.

Since losing the Glasgow derby at the end of December Celtic took 28 pints from the next 10 matches, stretching their lead at the top of the table from two points to 13.
