Steven Gerrard has defied financial logic by reassuring fans that the Ibrox finances are in good health.

In November the club’s annual report contained a Going Concern warning, in April players agreed to wage deferrals.

Andy Halliday, Wes Foderingham and Jordan Rossiter are due their final payments over the next eek but rather than trim the wage bill Gerrard has added Ianis Hagi, Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin to his squad.

None of that trio has experienced a title win- Bassey is still waiting to make his professional debut- but Gerrard has been reassured that his board has the cash to back his bid to stop 10-in-a-row.

Speaking to STV the Liverpool hero said:

We know this is a unique situation. I am aware of that. I speak to Ross [Wilson] every single day.

I have done during the whole of lockdown and I have spoken to him every day since we first started working together. I am in regular dialogue with the board as well.

Without giving too much away I am happy and content with what I am hearing. We are OK and I am told that if the right players become available and it makes financial sense, then we will do it. I do anticipate more signings but we have to be patient.

Last summer Gerrard committed £10m in transfer fees for Ryan Kent and Filip Helander while also bringing in Greig Stewart, Brandon Barker, Jordan Jones and Max Hastie to bloat the wage bill. Jamie Murphy and Greg Stewart are still under contract.
