Neil Lennon is hoping to take his first team squad to a training camp before the new season begins.

Celtic will start medical tests on their players on Monday with six groups of five players scheduled to report to Lennoxtown on Thursday as the club comes out of Lockdown.

In normal circumstances Celtic spend a week at Lennoxtown before heading off to an Austrian base to step up their preparations with three or four low key friendlies to improve fitness.

Champions League qualifiers staring in the second week of July have been the target to prepare for but it won’t be until July 18 that this season’s Qualification Route is known.

For Lennon and Celtic’s medical team it is a whole new process with the Sunday Post speaking to the hoops boss:

“Initially, we will be training in small groups which is fine, just basically bedding the players in again. Then we may look to go away to a training camp. We are pursuing a couple of avenues that may be a possibility.

“That would maybe allow us into training in bigger groups, which is obviously very important in your preparation for the new season. All those processes and think clouds are all in place at the minute. We do feel confident that if there is the possibility of going to a camp, we will.”

Would that involve going abroad?

“It could do, yes. That’s something we are looking at, no question.”

Celtic haven’t announced any new signings with transfer business likely to be limited until there are dates given for the return of fans inside Celtic Park.
