Celtic fans are spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting their favourite Champions League moments.

The greats of the game have celebrated escaping with a draw while players from the elite European leagues have trudged off the pitch wondering what had hit them at the northern outpost.

Back in 2006 Celtic Park didn’t hold any secrets to Ale Ferguson, as a player and manager he had often been in the away dressing room preparing to face all that Celtic could offer.

After losing 3-2 at Old Trafford on Matchday One Celtic took on the English side as outsiders but certainly not without hope.

It was a tight match as Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo pushed for a breakthrough against Artur Boruc.

With nine minutes left Celtic were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal. Nakamura had scored at Old Trafford but surely couldn’t beat Edwin van der Sar for a second time, not from further out?

What happened next is part of folklore. The clip above captures the moment perfectly. There was still time for Boruc to save a Louis Saha penalty kick. When the final whistle blew Celtic had won the match, taken full points and qualified from their Champions League group for the first time.
