Celtic fans switched straight into cynical mode when they read that their side was interested in £2m rated Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes.

Sure the striker looked impressive when the hoops lost their only away match of the season in the autumn but one or two matches is never enough to justify a move to the Scottish champions.

With the ‘Old Firm Battle’ tag thrown into the story fans were even more sceptical, it’s almost a decade since Celtic faced domestic competition with Kris Commons ending up in the green half of the city.

Dykes has found himself at the right club at the right time, if Livi are wise they will cash in on the former Queen of the South striker while the going is good.

There may be a few more levels for the 24-year-old to reach but nine SPFL Premiership goals and as many yellow cards isn’t the sort of form that Celtic look for in a striker.

Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths are the first-choice Celtic strikers, with Vakoun Bayo and Patryk Klimala costing around £5m those strikers look more likely to get a chance in the current climate than a move for the Livi striker who has left hoops fans underwhelmed.
