Celtic have been linked with Philadelphia Union teenager Brenden Aaronson.

In January 2019 Celtic signed Andrew Gutman and Manny Perez but so far they have been sent out on loan to US sides with no sign that either player has a work permit to play in Scotland.

Aaronson is described as a ‘Number 10’ and attracting attention from Bundesliga clubs with MLS Soccer, the official site of the MLS reporting:

Philadelphia Union and US men’s national team rising talent Brenden Aaronson isn’t short of suitors.

Aaronson is the subject of widespread interest from Europe. MLSsoccer.com can confirm reports linking Hoffenheim, SC Freiburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach with the player, per Bild, ESPN’s Taylor Twellman, SportsBuzzer and others.

MLSsoccer.com can add, per a source, that Scottish giants Celtic and an unnamed Belgian club are also interested in acquiring Aaronson.

Aaronson, 19, is a Philly academy graduate who broke through into the first team in 2019 when he made 25 starts for the Union. He earned his first call-up to the senior US national team in October. This season he has picked up right where he left off, with a goal and two assists across five starts.

Earlier this month Celtic were linked with Aaronson’s Union team-mate Mark McKenzie.

Despite their multi-national outlook over the last 20 years Celtic haven’t had any American playing in the first team.

Last season Cameron Harper was a regular in Tommy McIntyre’s reserve side but has so far not been included in any first team squads.

So far a loan deal for Moi Elyounoussi is the only incoming transfer that Celtic have completed with just over a week to go before the first SPFL match of the season.
