Celtic’s interest in Vasilios Barkas has been complicated by a cut in his transfer fee owed to Atromitis.

The goalkeeper was sold to AEK Athens in 2016 with Giannis Chorianopoulos of SportTime revealing that Atromitis have a clause to receive 15% of his next transfer fee. Transfermarkt report that a fee of £540,000 was paid in the 2016 transfer.

If that is the case it is in AEK’s interest to sell for a lower transfer fee with a larger cut in any future fee from Celtic making up the shortfall.

There seems to be a lot of detail emerging from the Greek end about salaries, transfer fees with Celtic yet to make any comment.

With one week to go until the SPFL season starts Scott Bain is the only experienced keeper on Celtic’s books with Ross Doohan and Conor Hazard the only back up.

Although the trail to Fraser Forster has gone cold in recent weeks it is not yet dead with the Southampton keeper the first choice of Neil Lennon.

One advantage that Barkas has over Forster is that he has been playing regularly for AEK, Forster hasn’t played any type of match since keeping a clean sheet against St Mirren on March 7.
