Matt Polster is set to join the Ibrox exodus with Chicago Fire close to signing the American flop.

The 27-year-old has been unable to dislodge James Tavernier during his season and a half at Ibrox after arriving as a free agent from American football.

Andy Halliday, Wes Foderingham, Jason Holt, Jak Alnwick and Jordan Rossiter have been cut from the wage bill since the title was lost with more expected to be shipped out. On Friday Jake Hastie went on loan to Motherwell.

The Glasgow Times reports:

Matt Polster is poised to join New England Revolution, Herald and Times Sport understands.

The American right-back has struggled to force his way into the Ibrox first-team with captain James Tavernier ahead of him in the pecking order.

It is believed a six-figure sum has been agreed between the two clubs with Polster ready to complete the deal.

Polster, 27, made his Rangers debut against Hearts at Tynecastle last April in a 3-1 victory but has only managed nine appearances since, with just six of those games in the Scottish Premiership.

In the final match of the season Polster was an 85th minute substitute against Bayer Leverkusen, that was long enough for him to set up the third goal of the night for the Germans.

Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin have been added to Gerrard’s squad with Flo Kamberi and Sheyi Ojo returning to their parent clubs at the end of their loan deals.
